How much work do you have to do before you can do your work?

You know how you have a task you set out to complete, but first you have to look something up. And you have to find those notes you took. So you have to clear away the stack piling up by your computer. And you realize that you forgot to send this in that is due tomorrow morning. Then you are interrupted by some minor catastrophe in the next room. And then you have to take this phone call about tonight's carpool.

And an hour, a whole day goes by and the main part of your work, the part that they are paying you for, is still left undone. Do you just feel like you are treading water?

A new day has dawned in my household. This weekend my 14 year old daughter did all her laundry herself claiming she was tired of waiting. I rejoiced.

I have been updating my resume, which needed major updating after this busy year. My Dear One caught the typo "Business Networking Intentional" rather than "Business Networking International." Good catch, but the error was amusing. I intend to network my business, but often just don't get around to it;-)

My youngest is at the Kennedy Center on a field trip today. In preparation, her music teacher turned the class on to Gershwin. I found this out when I helped her use her iTunes card to download "Rhapsody in Blue" along with the latest by Mylie Cyrus.

I love being busy with new and exciting writing projects. I'll let you know about them as they are confirmed.

But is the following true for you?
As your career, or other section of your life heats up, your house falls apart.

My laundry and dishes are stacked. Clutter is breeding rapidly on all my horizontal surfaces. Phone calls aren't being returned promptly.

I still haven't begun my taxes.

I'm underexcersized and over caffeinated (still just on tea though.)

But I have trouble falling asleep because I'm planning my next project, which is great.

I think a clean house means you are bored. I also clean to procrastinate. Now I try to do one quick chore to break up my time at the computer, but obviously I'm not breaking often enough.

But I don't want to take a break. Usually the allure of a vacation, even a mini-getaway is tough to resist. I'll just take my breaks on blogger.
