I've decided to start composting. One reason is because in a year or two I want to start a kitchen garden, but my soil is so sandy. So I thought if I started composting now, maybe next year I'll have a healthy patch. Also composting is good for the environment in general.
Do any of you compost? Any advice or warnings?

If you're going to be serious about it, buy or make a composting barrel.
Mom put in everything but meat scraps and grease. But you probably already knew that.
I bet you've already done your homework on this...
Mine is very low budget but functionable. Let's put it this way- it ain't pretty. Chicken wire wrapped around three re-bar stakes driven into the ground and the bottom is raised with a wooden pallet with fine gauge hardware cloth stapled down to cover it.
Just make sure you add some yard soil to it to get things off to a good start with those dandy little microbes it has to offer. After that, it's sunshine, aeration and tons of veggie scrapes, grass clippings, leaves and coffee grounds.
