I went watchless today. I chose this uniformed position primarily due to vanity, but nevertheless, I was unsure of the time all day long.
It was kind of freeing, but only because of my schedule today. It's nice to ease the stress about how much time do I have left before I have to (fill in the blank).
Anyway, I have to buy a new everyday watch. The water that seeped into my comfortable, elastic banded Timex when I was floating down the icy Boise River with some excellent friends a month ago, finally caught up with the ticker.
What are your most important considerations when purchasing a watch?

I don't wear a watch any more. Use your cell phone. Mine always has the correct local time. (This is an important point when traveling.)

This is so weird. I never wear a watch, mostly cause I forget but lately cause I can't see it anyway. My class yesterday morning went over and I spent most of yesterday deciding that I need a watch and looking for one. I want one I need to wind because I have about 5 that need batteries and I just can't seem to get them replaced...and it needs to have big numbers that light up. So, What are we thinking about today, same wavelength sister?
I agree with yolinna - if you're going to wear a watch (and I still do), the most important consideration is readability. Even though it's probably not an issue for you yet (you young thing), it will be soon.
Lucky for me I inherited my late mother's Movado watch - no numbers at all!
First, I want a second hand, don't know why, just want one.
Second, quartz movement for reliability.
Third, water proof, I have to be able to swim and shower in it.
Forth, good contrast between the hands and the face. Which means,
Fifth, no digital! There's no future or history in digital, it's all in the present.
Yolinna, get me your watches that need batteries, I'll fix'm up for you.
Anne and I differ, I guess. I require a digital. When that cop stops me and wants to see my log book I need quick number recognition so that I can adjust...I mean update my log book before he gets to the cab. I've been using the same type watch for about 10 years now it seems. Timex Indiglo digital with an elastic band. I have three or four in the drawer that were gifts but I'm afraid to wear them and mess them up by banging them around. I don't replace batteries, I replace watches. Call me crazy, but if you do you have to call me for dinner.
